Friday, October 9 | 9am–1:15pm

Standard Chartered, 3 Bryant Park, New York

WORKTECH New York Exchange will bring together a focused group of senior professionals to explore the workplace and corporate real estate challenges shaping the next phase of business transformation.

Taking place the morning after the main WORKTECH New York conference, the Exchange moves the conversation from ideas presented on stage to practical discussion and shared experience. Through facilitated roundtables, peer-to-peer exchange and informal networking, participants will have the opportunity to compare approaches, test assumptions and examine how other organisations are responding to common challenges.

Rather than a traditional conference programme, the morning is designed around active participation, creating space for more candid, detailed and practical conversation.

Shared Challenges, Different Contexts: What Workplace Leaders Are Trying to Solve

Melissa Fisher, Workplace Anthropologist & Strategist; PT Faculty in Strategic Design & Management Program at Parsons School of Design at the New School

Across 19 WORKTECH events worldwide, 734 workplace leaders were asked to identify their biggest workplace challenge. Five issues consistently rose to the top: space and portfolio decisions; attendance; technology and user experience; stakeholder alignment; and data-led decision-making. Although these challenges appear across regions and sectors, their causes—and the ways organisations are responding—vary considerably. This session will turn those global findings into a practical peer exchange. Following a short introduction, each table will explore one of the five challenges, compare how it manifests within their organisations, and share approaches that have worked—or failed.

Personas as an Operating Layer for the Workplace

Melissa Marsh, Founder & Executive Director, Plastarc

Personas are often created as a design artefact but rarely used beyond early visioning. This session reframes personas as an ongoing operational tool that can inform workplace planning, service delivery, technology investment, and change strategies. Drawing on behavioural data and lived experience, participants will explore how personas can reveal different workforce needs, test assumptions about attendance and space, and identify where one-size-fits-all workplace approaches break down. Through facilitated table discussion, they will consider how persona thinking could be applied within their own organisations and leave with practical principles for making more responsive, evidence-led workplace decisions.

The Future of Skills: Beyond the Degree, Beyond the Job Title

Ege Aksu, Economist, Revelio Labs

Every organisation is asking what its people will need to be good at next, and the answer is shifting faster than job titles can keep up. As AI takes on more tasks and credentials carry less weight, skills are becoming the currency of the labour market. Ege Aksu, Economist at Revelio Labs, will open with a short provocation drawing on workforce data to challenge some common assumptions about skills-based hiring, upskilling, and AI’s effect on jobs.  Participants will then compare notes with peers at their tables on how skills are shaping the future of work in their own organisations and workplaces, what’s working and what isn’t.
