On Tuesday 30th June, WORKTECH Melbourne attendees will have the opportunity to visit the Advanced Manufacturing and Design Centre (AMDC) at Swinburne University of Technology, Hawthorn, a state of the art facility that brings together research, industry, and education to explore the future of manufacturing and design in Australia.

Opened in 2014 as a $100 million investment, the AMDC was designed by WilkinsonEyre in collaboration with Architectus as a purpose built facility for advanced manufacturing, research, and education. The building brings together specialist laboratories, prototyping workshops, and teaching spaces within a single integrated structure, supporting activities from design through to production. Its open, industrial aesthetic and central atrium create visual connections across floors, reinforcing collaboration while reflecting the transparency of contemporary manufacturing environments.

At the heart of the AMDC is a focus on cutting edge technology and real world impact. Facilities such as the Factory of the Future enable organisations to explore digital manufacturing, robotics, AI, and advanced prototyping, while the building’s 5 Star Green Star rating reflects a commitment to sustainability and future focused design. Together, the architecture, technology, and collaborative ethos of the AMDC create a compelling environment that showcases Melbourne’s role as a centre for innovation and workplace transformation.
