Humanising Cities
Heatherwick Studio believes that emotion is the crucial ingredient that is missing in so much of design today. Who is really thinking about how to make buildings, places and spaces mean something to us - to lift our spirits and connect us? What does bringing humanity back into our buildings and cities mean for workplaces of the future? In her keynote, Adrienne Lau, will talk through some key projects, including Google’s US and UK headquarter campuses, and explain how an understanding of emotion shapes how the studio works across all scales and typologies.

In this session, Edwin Heathcote, architecture and design critic of The Financial Times since 1999, will discuss the role of architecture in sustaining London as a world capital and the role of the media in shaping the discourse around its key design characteristics. In conversation with Jeremy Myerson, Director of WORKTECH Academy, Heathcote will draw on his latest book On The Street: In-Between Architecture and on his experiences as a writer, architect and designer.
